West Point BridgeFrom November until March, ASCE visits local schools to promote engineering through the use of the West Point Bridge Designer. Through this computer program students can enter a State and National competition to win various prizes. Students are encouraged to learn the basics of bridge designing by building the lowest costing bridge possible.
This spring WVU ASCE has teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive. This years blood drive will be held during Engineers Week on the 22nd of February from 12:30 - 6. The American Red Cross administers the blood drive with ASCE volunteers advertising the blood drive and serving as volunteers during the event.
Spring Technical Conference
Each year, the WVU student chapter of ASCE hosts a technical conference to provide professional engineers with an opportunity to earn professional development hours. All licensed professional engineers who attend learn about a variety of topics, ranging from construction projects and challenges to design engineering and research projects. They will also obtain a certificate that will grant them 6 hours toward their P.D.H.’s.
High School Visitation Days
The Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources of West Virginia University hosts a day for high school seniors and their parents to visit and learn more about the college each fall and spring. ASCE’s role is to assist the Freshman Engineering Faculty as well as the Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty to introduce the seniors to the facilities and programs offered at WVU.
ASCE host a yearly tournament that is a great opportunity for student organizations to get together and have a great time. Also, part of registration is to bring in canned food that is then donated.
Student organizations make a trip down to Clendenin to help clean up after the flood that struck southern West Virginia.
